ABOUT THE WEBSITE

Cybia first started way back in 1996 (if my memory serves me right). That's practically an ice-age in Web time!

The original site was merely a few pages to host my freeware Photoshop plug-in filters. I had no idea that this site, or the plug-ins for that matter, would still be around all these years later. But visitors continue to stop by here and download things so I'll do my best to keep the site going as long as there is still an interest among users.

Although Cybia has always been dedicated to providing freeware downloads, I am also now developing some commercial products too. This is to help pay for the ever-increasing running costs of this website (domain registration, hosting fees, commercial webspace, extra bandwidth requirements, etc). Without this funding I could not afford to keep this site online I'm afraid.

Don't worry though, the freeware section will ALWAYS remain here and I will continue to add more downloads whenever I can. That's a promise. All Cybia products, both freeware and commercial, are built for speed and ease of use. They are aimed at being simple solutions for simple problems, nothing more! I hope that you find them useful anyway.

Don't forget to sign up for the Cybia Newsletter if you want to be kept informed of the latest news and releases.

All of my work is produced on a Windows-based PC.I don't have access to a Mac system anymore to create Mac conversions of my resources I'm afraid, but I hope to be able to do this again at some point in the future.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

OK, this is the point where you must be getting really bored and obviously have nothing better to do if you want to know more details about me! I'll keep it brief, here it goes ...

This website is produced and maintained by Steve Upham. I was born and raised here in South Wales, UK. I have always been creative and am addicted to all things art-related. I enjoy everything from drawing, painting, sculpting, woodwork, photography and computer graphics. I am happy enough as long as I'm doing something creative with my time.

I have a BA (Hons) in Design and after leaving Uni I ran my own craft workshop for over a decade. Unfortunately in the summer of 2008 I was admitted to hospital with a serious heart condition, which has slowed me down a lot. I am doing my best though to continue with the Cybia website now, don't worry! I also do freelance illustration work am starting to edit and publish books as well. So you can imagine how busy my life really is.

I hope you enjoy visiting this website and viewing what's on offer here.

BETA TESTING

Most software developers will know the importance of beta-testing their products before releasing them to the general public. This is done to ensure there are no obvious bugs or mistakes in the program or documentation. It also enables the software to be tested under many different system setups, which wouldn't otherwise be possible for the author to fully explore by themselves. Beta-testers provide vital feedback about programs and help future development.

If you enjoy experimenting with new products and have some time to spare, then please feel free to contact me and ask to join my official beta list. I will notify you whenever there is something new to test out and provide you with direct download links that won't be available to the general public. Anyone can apply but I am particularly interested in users who have knowledge of the following ...

Plug-In Filters : Graphics users who work with Photoshop, PSP or similar packages
Poser Add-Ons : For testing my 3D props with Poser and DAZ Studio
Utility Software : Anyone interested in basic tools made for simple everyday tasks

Please be aware that beta-releases are "work-in-progress" and may contain bugs or missing features, so don't expect everything to be perfect! While every care is taken to ensure the stability of the products, no warranty is given on their use. You must agree to install and test any software at your own risk. Please only do so if you are confident and experienced with this kind of work, thanks!

Why Become A Tester? If you are like me, you will be addicted to all kinds of creative software and enjoy trying out all the latest releases! So by joining the beta-team you will gain access to new products before anyone else, plus additional items that may not ever be released to the general public. If you help with the development of any of my commercial products then you will also qualify for free copy of that title.

CONTACT DETAILS

If you need to get in touch or want to ask any questions about specific products then feel free to e-mail me directly and I will do whatever I can to help with your enquiries. Please use the contact form on the Help page.

Due to the high rate of virus attachments that I receive each week in my e-mails, any unsolicited messages that contain attachments will be automatically deleted from the server before reaching my inbox. So please do NOT send me any images or file attachments to view in your initial e-mails unless I specifically ask for them. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Important Note : Due to the nature of virus e-mail attachments, many times they will appear to have been sent by a known contact. Don't be fooled! If you receive a message containing an attachment and the "sender" is in the form of an e-mail address and not a full name then that is a sign it's a possible virus. This form of virus tries to fool you into thinking that it has been sent from someone you may recognise by using known e-mail addresses that it "harvests" from infected computers and often via spam lists and other methods.

I have noticed that sometimes my e-mail and variations of the Cybia domain have been used in his way. But I assure you that they have NOT been sent by me! I never send out unsolicited e-mails to anyone, especially containing attachments, so if you ever receive any messages that are labelled from my e-mail address or variations of this domain then please delete them without opening.

These "spoofed" mail addresses are becoming more and more popular now so it is no longer such a good idea to bounce back messages to the sender ... as this will only result in the innocent domain owners being flooded with replies to mails that they never sent in the first place! So please just delete such messages instead of bouncing.

I strongly recommend that you keep all your security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware) upto date. You can't be too careful these days!
